The Department of Anthropology has started functioning at Diphu campus from the year 2010. The Department offers a four semester Post Graduate (M.A./M.Sc.) and Integrated Ph.D. programme in Anthropology. The Department has been engaged various anthropological research works especially among the tribes of Northeast India.
The Department is planning to carry out large scale research projects that would help students to get exposure in Anthropological research in the field of culture, health and development which help them to get employment opportunities in Research Organisations/Institutions both in Government and Non Government Organizations.

At present two minor research projects are going on.
1. "Folk Culture. Environmental Sustainability And Emerging Challenges: A Study On The Karbis Of Karbi Anglong, Assam" sponsored by University Grants Commission, New Delhi.(PI-Somenath Bhattacharjee)
2. "A Study on the Marriage system of Karbis of Karbi Anglong, Assam" sponsored by Department of Art and Culture, KAAC, Diphu. (PI- Kh. Narendra Singh)
3. "Indigenous Knowledge Of Health Care Practices During Pregnancy, Childbirth And Postnatal Period- A Study On The Karbi Tribal Group Of North East India" sponsored by ICMR (PI-Somenath Bhattacharjee)
Further proposals on major and minor research projects are to be submitted soon.
During the past three years the placement of the Department are:
i) One student of the department qualified for UGC - NET (2012) and currently pursuing Ph.D. degree in Anthropology at Dibrugarh University.
ii) Four students of the department received Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship for Research programme and currently doing Ph.D. degree in Anthropology in the department.
i) One student of 2010-11 batch is currently working at Department of Art and Culture (KAAC) as Principal at Diphu, Karbi Anglong.
ii) One student of 2012-13 batch is currently teaching at a College in Nagaon.
iii) One student of 2012-13 batch is currently working at Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) As Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Hamren division, Karbi Anglong.
iv) Three students of 2012-13 batch are currently engaged in Government affiliated research organizations in Karbi Anglong.
v) Some past students are currently teaching at Schools.
