Departmental Profile: The Department of Life Sciences started functioning from July 2007 with two years M.Sc programme. The Department has started its Ph.D programme since January 2009. The M.Sc Programme deal with core subjects like Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Bio-Statistics, Bio-Informatics, Research Techniques, Microbiology and Biotechnology in the first year. In the second year, the students take up independent research projects in frontier areas of Plant, Animal and Environmental Sciences including Microbiology depending on their previous back grounds. The Ph.D Programme includes six months pre Ph.D course dealing with the research methodologies after which they take up full time research work in their own area of interest. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, recently sanctioned a BIOTECH-HUB to the Department of Life Sciences. The department actively engaged in popularizing science among the masses by organizing programmes for Science Day celebrations, Health Campus etc. It also organizes seminars, symposia and workshops regularly for the exchange of advance scientific knowledge.
