Departmental Profile:
The
department of Microbiology has started functioning from session
July 2009-2010. The main objective and focus of the department is
to guide and impart innovative education at par with International
Universities. The department endeavours to specialize its student
in distinct areas of Microbiology. The duration of the Masters’
course is of two years having four semesters. First year of
Masters programme deals with training in core courses like General
Microbiology Bioinstrumentation and Computer Applications,
Mycology and Phycology, Microbial Physiology and Biochemistry,
Cellular Microbiology and Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology
and Recombinant DNA Technology, Microbial Genetics. In second year
students will have exposure of Parasitology, Medical and
Veterinary Microbiology, Soil and Environmental Microbiology,
Industrial Microbiology and Fermentation Technology, Food
Microbiology. Further, in the fourth semester students will select
a special paper to enhance their skills of advance areas in
microbiology such as Clinical Microbiology, Microbial Technology,
Microbial Diversity, Agricultural Microbiology, Veterinary
Microbiology and also select
Dissertation or training at Academic Institutes and
Industries.
The department has recently framed
the syllabi as per International, National and Regional needs. The
course contents have been kept according as per UGC-CSIR
NET/DBT-JRF/GATE/ICMR-JRF/ICAR-JRF. The department will also hold
regularly seminar, quiz and NET counseling to qualify its students
for UGC-CSIR NET. The students will have regular interaction with
the faculties; group discussion on advance research area of
Microbiology. The students will have exposure of in hand
experience of various sophisticated instruments. The department
will also invite various experts from various esteemed Institutes,
Universities and Industries to expose its students. The department
will encourage its student to establish new methodologies and
write a research paper of their research work.
