Departmental Profile
The Department of Geography, under the School of Earth Sciences, is one of the youngest departments in Assam University. It started functioning in Diphu Campus from July, 2014, and currently offers M.A./ M.Sc. programme of study. The present curriculum is wide-ranging and it covers core courses such as geomorphology, regional geography of India, economic geography and climatology in the first semester and courses such as political geography, social geography, population geography, regional development and planning, environmental geography, and regional geography of North East India in the subsequent semesters. In addition, the course includes papers on cartography, remote sensing, GIS and dissertation writing. The department has a well equipped laboratory facility.
